This unit of competency specifies the mandatory work, health and safety training required prior to undertaking construction work. The unit requires the person to demonstrate personal awareness and knowledge of health and safety legislative requirements in order to work safely and prevent injury or harm to self and others.
It covers identifying and orally reporting common construction hazards, understanding basic risk control measures, and identifying procedures for responding to potential incidents and emergencies. It also covers correctly selecting and fitting common personal protective equipment (PPE) used for construction work.
This course is SafeWork approved.
Course Overview
White Card
On successful completion of the course students will be issued with a Statement of Attainment. You can then apply for the White Card through SafeWork NSW.
What you need to study
Entry Requirements
A basic understanding, reading and writing of English is required to be able to complete assessments.
You will need to provide 100 points of proof of identity (includes photo ID) before starting the course. Some documents you can use to provide this can include:
- Australian birth certificate
- Australian drivers licence
- Medicare card
- ATM card
- Utilities bill

To successfully complete this course, it is recommended students have access to a personal computer or laptop, and a personal internet connection.
Unique Student Identifier (USI)
A USI is required by all Australian students undertaking nationally recognised training. If you do not have a USI, please visit the USI website.

Assessments
You will be required to complete knowledge based and practical assessments, these may include:
- Question and Answers
- Demonstration of skills
Students studying online, may be asked to submit videos as evidence of the application of practical skills.
Recognition of Prior Learning
You may be eligible for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) or Credit Transfer (CT) provided you have supporting evidence of any prior education and work experience.
This can either reduce your study load or shorten the duration of your course.
